PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
How do you visualize a place that doesn’t even exist yet?
Boston Virtual Imaging partnered with WS Development and 128 CRE to showcase the redevelopment of a Chestnut Hill cinema complex, into a new mixed-use office and retail building.
The client’s need for this video was to showcase the final constructed space in the already well-defined retail environment, THE STREET, as well as highlight the geographic significance of this location. The video would be used as a marketing tool to attract office and medical tenants. The overall timeline for this project was four weeks.
In order to tell this story, Boston Virtual Imaging worked closely with WS Development and 128 CRE to understand the location and their target audience. We captured staged scenes with volunteer models to activate the retail environment. We then captured aerial footage of the site and surrounding area using a drone. 3D animations were embedded into some of the aerial footage to visualize the new building. 3D animations were also created to visualize potential tenant build out configurations of the interior of the building. 2D text graphics were animated to music to deliver information to the viewer.
My favorite part about this project was having to problem solve how to visualize a place that doesn’t exist yet. I believe that in today’s modern society, places now exist not only in physical space, but in digital space as well. I enjoyed exploring this interdependence of representation, by collaborating with WS Development’s branding for THE STREET as well as Boston Virtual Imaging’s in-house 3D modeling artists, camera operators and SUAS pilots to bring it all together.
