How do you film an aerial based video next to one of Boston’s busiest air force bases? 

Boston Virtual Imaging partnered with Lincoln Property Company to produce a leasing video to showcase the redevelopment of a multi-building office park into Boston’s next life science campus in Lexington, MA. 

The client’s need for this video was to visualize the new redeveloped spaces, and highlight the geographic significance of this location. The video would be used as a marketing tool to attract lab and office tenants. The overall timeline for this project was four weeks. 

In order to tell this story, Boston Virtual Imaging worked directly with Lincoln Property Company to understand the location and the target audience. A voiceover script was written and recorded by a professional voiceover artist. We then captured aerial footage of the site and surrounding area using a drone, as well as from a helicopter. 3D animations were embedded into the aerial footage to visualize future renovations to the exterior of each building. 3D animations were also rendered to visualize a handful of interior spaces. 2D text graphics were animated to music to deliver additional information to the viewer.   

My favorite part of this project was filming on a beautiful summer day from a helicopter with the doors off. Due to the close proximity to Hanscom Air Force Base, we had to work closely with air traffic control in order to get the shots that we had promised our client. If you look closely in some of the aerial clips, you’ll notice airplanes landing, as air traffic control managed traffic around us, while we filmed this property.
